Disney's A Christmas Carol

Disney has a new version of A Christmas Carol coming out this November.  To promote it they have taken a train and are doing a tour of the movie.  The Disney train arrived in Williams AZ for its three day stay/  We headed down on Sunday May 31.
They transform the area into the "Christmas" season even with carolers!
This is a blow up building that I believe was not in use.  It is a theatre where they show a clip from the movie.  Because of a building with a viewing room at the train station, it was used instead.
The train was wrapped with A Christmas Carol promotional wrap.  You walk through the four cars and see how the movie was made.
You are given a ticket to get into the viewing of the clip from the movie.

We had a good time.  If you get a chance and it comes to a train depot near you, go check it out.

What Is This???

I have not seen one of these in a long time.    This (for those of you who need a reminder) is a phone booth.  We had to explain to our daughter how this works.)  And to just think, Superman use to duck into one of these to change into his outfit!

Fresh Cookies

As we were waiting for our breakfast the bakery was bringing out fresh baked cookies.
Don't these look good?  We did buy some for the road.

Breakfast at jakob Lake

On Tuesday morning we left the North Rim and started our journey back home.  We stopped and had breakfast at Jakob Lake.  There is a lodge and cafe there.  We stopped and had a hearty breakfast.

The Aspens

On the road that leads out to Point Imperial is an area that was struck by lightening a few years ago.  Since the fire there the Aspen trees have taken over.  They cover the area, as you can see.
The North Rim is covered with Aspens and pines.  It is a very beautiful area.
I so enjoy watching the Aspen leaves move in the wind.

Point Imperial

On Monday we drove to Point Imperial.  This is one of the more popular points to go out to.  The view was spectacular as you can tell.
God's handiwork is just amazing!

Old Radios

In the lobby of the lodge were two old radios.  I thought they were very cool.  One was close to the window and the other was across the room.

It's Brighty!

Inside the lodge is the famous statue of Brighty.  Brighty was a mule here and there was a book written about him.  Latter there was a movie made that I am told was pretty bad.  Read the book, skip the movie.

the Lodge At the North Rim

After going through the gate at the North Rim you drive about 15 miles until you get to the rim.  At the rim is the lodge.  It is actually a very beautiful building.
On the north side of the building is an area to walk down to and see the canyon.  This is the lodge from the rim.
This is the rim from outside of the lodge.

Grand Canyon National Park - North Rim

We made it to the North Rim!!!  It was a beautiful drive from Jacob Lake to the park entrance.  The area is grassy with a lot of Aspen Trees.  It is very beautiful and very different from the South Rim.

Kaibab Plateau Visitor's Center

We stopped at the Kaibab Plateau Visitor's Center at Jacob Lake.  It was a really neat little building.  The workers there were very friendly and helpful.
This was on the outside of the visitors' center.  Teddy Roosevelt started the national park system.  What a great way to be remembered!

To The North Rim!!!

On May 17 we headed for the North Rim.  We decided it was time to get away and we had never been to the North Rim.  Even though the North Rim is only 10 miles away (if you could fly over the Grand Canyon), to drive it is 200 miles.

These are the cliffs that you see on highway 89A on the way to the North Rim.  They actually have a name but I don't know what it is.  They are beautiful.
