The month of July is usually a good month for me to buy music. But this month was a little slower than in the past. Only four cds found their way into my possession. But that does not mean that I did not find some good music.
The Choir - Burning Like The Midnight Sun (Galaxy 21, 2010). This is the long awaited masterpiece from The Choir. Let me tell you right now that it does not disappoint at all. There are elements of that older Choir type of sound that we have all become familiar with. Listening to it is like a postcard from a dear friend. This will be one of the top albums of the year. Get it now!
Skillet - Awake (Atlantic, 2009). Skillet is a veteran band and I must confess that this is the first cd that I have ever bought of theirs. (If I counted correctly this is their 11th release). The lead vocalists has a voice that I have to get use to. I was surprised to find them on a major label. I picked this up last week at Target in Prescott AZ. It was on sale (actually being promoted on an end cap) for $9.99. Not a bad record.
Poema - Sing It Now (Tooth & Nail, 2010). About a week ago I downloaded some free music from Tooth & Nail Records. It was 21 songs for summer that they called "Your Summer Soundtrack." The first song was by Poema entitled "2 A.M." All of us in this household loved the folky-rock sound of these two young sisters. Turns out that the cd is a 6 song EP. I thought that it would be on Tooth & Nails' sister label BEC Records. I was very wrong. I ordered this gem from Amazon.com ($4.99) and it has been played a lot. In fact my 13 year old daughter likes their sound enough that it is on her Ipod also. Now, if they can follow up with a full length album.
August is starting out with a bang already. I placed an order with Rad Rockers for 12 cds that I am sure will not disappoint. This order should arrive in about a week. When it does I will post and discuss what I got.
