A Nice Spring Snow

The day started with really high winds.  I drove the Hermit Route today and was able to watch the snow on the north rim go across the canyon and on to the south rim.  Looking at the pictures you can see what a nice lite snow we had.

This is a nice view out the front window of the bus.  The snow would go from light to heavy to almost nothing.

There were times when the snow and the clouds were so heavy and thick that you could not see the canyon at all.

The roads were beautiful as I drove west and east all afternoon.

There were times when the snow would get somewhat heavy and it was hard to see.
A view of the snow through the bus window.
This is from Hermit's Rest.  I really like the cloud in the canyon.
When I got off work I had a little bit of snow to brush off the car.
Not a bad snow for late March.  It is suppose to snow more tonight and early tomorrow morning.  We will see what the Lord brings us.

My Weekend In Prescott - Wednesday Night Church

Our main purpose for going to Prescott was to go to church on Wednesday night.  Calvary Prescott is our home church and we try to make it down there as often as possible.  The worship, the teaching, the fellowship, everything that we look for in a church is there.  Plus we simply like it also.  The senior pastor is Rajesh Ahuja.  As much as we enjoy his teaching he does not teach on Wednesday nights.  The founding pastor does Wednesday nights.

The worship last night was led by Jonah and Ken.  They also had a young lady with them named Becky.  It was wonderful acoustic worship.  The Lord's presence was there and that made the evening so good.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!
(Psalms 133:1)

My Weekend In Prescott - Lunch

We made it to Prescott safely and got our rv space for the night.  Then off to lunch.  We headed to Red Robin, one of our favorite eating haunts!

I had the Guacamole Bacon Burger.  Always great!   And the guacamole was just perfect.

Missy had the California Chicken Burger.  It is the same as my burger but made with chicken.
With full bellies we left Red Robin.  Red's attitude was the same as ours:  thumbs up!  Great lunch!

My Weekend In Prescott - the Harley Davidson Store

We made it to Sedona after a beautiful drive on 89A.  It was impossible for Missy to find a place to park so I ran into the Harley store and made my purchase.

Even though the sign on the building say parking in rear, if you have a Dodge Ram 2500 with a truck camper on back, you should not even attempt it!  Trust me.

This is the inside of the Harley store.  It is upstairs in a shopping building.  All they carry is clothing and stuff that says Harley-Davidson on it.  No motorcycles.

My Weekend In Prescott - a side trip to Sedona

We left Flagstaff and headed south out of town on highway 89A.  We were on our way to Sedona to the Harley-Davidson store.  Now, I do not have a Harley but I use driving gloves on my job.  On Monday my right glove on the palm began to split.

On our way to Flagstaff we stopped at the Harley store just west of town to buy new gloves.  They were totally out of the fingerless gloves that I use.  But the Sedona store had a pair.  We decided to go south to Sedona and buy the gloves and then go to Prescott.

Here are some pictures of our trip south on 89A.

Even though the road is somewhat narrow, the views are beautiful.  It is amazing to look and see what our Heavenly Father has created.

My Weekend In Prescott - a side trip to Flagstaff

We headed to Prescott AZ on Wednesday.  But first we had to go to Flagstaff to drop off my physical from the doctor.  We went to the DOT office in Flagstaff.  Dealing with the AZ Department of Transportation is always interesting.

The Commercial Driver License area has it's own office that is only open on Wednesday and Thursday.  To get in you have to ring the bell.  I rang the bell and got in.
I turned in the paper work (Praise God my physical is good for TWO years!)  and off we went.

Frisbee

Last night I watched the documentary film "Frisbee: the Life and Death of a Hippie Preacher."  Lonnie Frisbee played a large role in the History of Calvary Chapel and the Vineyard.

After viewing the film it seemed that the general consensus is that Lonnie was given a raw deal and that the leaders he trusted mistreated him.  But somewhere along the way Lonnie had to take responsibility for his own actions and he had to come to grips with his own sin.

Looking at 1 Timothy we see the qualifications for church leadership.  It wasn't just Lonnie's homosexual sin that removed him from ministry.  It could have been any of these areas that Paul refers to.

From watching this film it seems that both Chuck Smith and John Wimber were doing the right thing when they removed Lonnie from ministry.  These were shepherds that were protecting their sheep and doing their best to obey the Word of God.

Lonnie seemed to be portrayed as not wanting to be under any type of leadership.  It seemed he wanted to do whatever he wanted to do.  When restrictions were put on him, he rebelled.

I noticed three things that seemed to manifest themselves in Lonnie:
  • resentment
  • bitterness
  • rebelliousness
These are things that I know that I do not want in my life.

The apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 5:  Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.  And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.  But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.  For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, not covetous man, who is an idolator, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.  (Eph. 5:1-5)

Personally, I want to be an imitator of God.

There Is Nothing Like New Music

I LOVE getting new music.  On Monday I placed an order from the Word For Today for 3 new cds.  On Wednesday (my day off) I received them.  I didn't expect them to arrive until Friday.  But when I checked their delivery day, it was Wednesday!  Man was I excited.  Missy did tell me to calm down and that UPS usually didn't arrive until 4:30 or so.

About 4:30 I heard the little brown truck stopping in front of my rv and I went out and met the UPS man.  (He knows us by now.  Everything (almost) comes UPS.)

The first cd was by Terry Clark entitled "U Gada No" (Catalyst Ministries, 1993).  It is an older album that has some really great songs.  One song on there that I really wanted is a song called Jesus Mighty Fortress.  When my family attended Calvary Chapel Garland (Garland TX) years ago that was one of the songs that we use to sing.  Brings back great memories.

Second is Evan Wickham's 2005 release "Mysterious Things."  I was familar with a few of the songs on here ("House of the Holy One," "Pour Out Your Spirit, Lord" and "Hallalujah Jesus").  The rest of the album though is really great.  It was produced by Evan and his father John Wickham.  His brother is Phil Wickham who has become a name in a lot of circles.

Last but not least is the new Scott Cunningham cd call "'Till The Whole World Hears."  This is the one by Scott that I have been waiting on.  As much as I loved his previous release, this one is a masterpiece.  This is a very sing-a-long type of cd with some great worship songs.  Not a bad cut on the whole disc.  This will be the one that Missy will beg me to stop playing simply because I will be playing it waaaay to much!

There is nothing like new music.

Last Saturday's Snow

These are some pictures from last Saturday's snow.  It was a light snow and was all gone by 11 or 12 o'clock.  By the time I got dressed and went outside to take pictures it was mostly gone.

The Toughest Day Of The Week

For me, Sunday is the hardest day of the week.  It is not because of some physical activity that I have to do or because of a long, hard day at work.  It is because of the fact that there is no where to go to church here on Sunday.  Oh, I know that there is the Community Church.  But they do not believe what I do.

Now, you may ask what I mean by that.  Good question.  I called the Community Church when I first moved here.  I spoke to the pastor and told him that I had just arrived and wanted to know a little about his church.  He asked me what I wanted to know.  So, I asked him what his format was on Sunday mornings, if he taught through a book of the Bible, or if he might do a topical series or if it was just random sermons.  Then I got down to business.  Where did he stand on the inerrancy and inspiration of the Bible, the virgin birth of Jesus, the bodily resurrection?  His answer?  He gave a nervous laugh and told me that no one ever asks these type of questions.  In fact, no one has asked him these questions since SEMINARY!

Man, what a drag!  These are important questions that we need to keep in the forefront.  They need to be asked and discussed consistently.

There are two other churches here.  One is an Assembly of God and the other is a Baptist church.  I have met the pastors of the Assembly of God church.  They are a husband and wife team that are very devoted to building up their church.  Their hands are extremely tied when it comes to sharing the Lord here and they really march to the denominational beat.  Nice people though.

I know nothing about the Baptist church.  Recently I figured out who the pastor is.  I over heard him talking to someone at the general store.  Missy and I are thinking about calling him (that would mean me) and asking him where he stands on certain theological issues.

The problem is we are Calvary Chapel people and that is where the Lord has called us.  We made the decision to commit to Calvary Prescott.  About every three weeks we are heading to Prescott on a Wednesday and going to church (I am off on Wednesday and Thursday each week.  That is my weekend.)  We like the pastor.  He actually teaches through the Bible (what a novel idea!) and Janie likes the youth group there.  So, on March 18-19 we will be in Prescott!!!  We get to go to church and enjoy worship, teaching and fellowship.

Don't take going to church and Christian fellowship for granted.  But, God has been and is faithful.

The Return of Winter

Here at the Grand Canyon we have been experiencing some beautiful spring like weather.  It has been in the upper fifties and lower sixties for about three weeks.  But this morning I awoke to snow.  It is not a heavy snow but it is covering the ground (and the roads) pretty well.

Latter on today I will get outside and get some pictures of this beautiful white stuff.

Who Is This Guy?

I am Charles and I live and work at the Grand Canyon National Park.  I am a shuttle bus driver. Next month I will begin my third year working here.  At times it seems a little strange to be here but for the most part it has become normal.

I live in a national park with my wife and eleven year old daughter.  We live in a 40 foot fifth wheel.  At times it seems very cramped in here but for the most part we do okay.  We do our best to lead a normal life.

You maybe asking what to expect here?  I get to discuss whatever I basically want to.  I have interests in theology, music and life.  Wow!  That was vague wasn't it?  Come and visit.  Subscribe and see what my current thought is.  I do have one thing and that is an opinion.
